Households experiencing food insecurity often have increased rates of diet-related chronic disease such as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease, which makes nutrition an important aspect of providing charitable food. Many food pantries recognize the importance of more comprehensive hunger relief that goes beyond pounds of food distributed to better support the health of community members.
