DIABETES MANAGEMENT AND PREVENTION PROGRAMS

  • Living Well with Diabetes: Toolkit is a free, virtual, 6-week workshop in which participants who have diabetes or are at risk for developing diabetes will learn the skills to manage their diabetes and health. Caregivers, partners, support persons and family members are also welcome to register.

DIABETES AWARENESS VIDEO SERIES

  • Gestational Diabetes - (All Ages/ Family, 2min) Join Dr. Bada, a gynecologist with the Howard County Health Department, as she discusses gestational diabetes and offers tips on how to manage it. Partnered with Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition, the Howard County Health Department, and the Howard County Library System.
  • Type 1 Diabetes - (All Ages/ Family, 2min) Nurse Erin Anderson, with the Howard County Health Department, shares her family's experience with Type 1 Diabetes and offers tips on how to help your child live with this illness. Partnered with the Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition, the Howard County Health Department, and the Howard County Library System.
  • Pre-Diabetes in the Black Community- (All Ages/ Family, 2min) Join Dr. Sidney Nelson, a board-certified internist in Howard County, as he raises awareness of pre-diabetes, it's risk factors, and offers tips on how to lower your risk with healthy lifestyles changes. Partnered with the Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition, the Howard County Health Department, and Onyx Medical Society.
  • Pre-Diabetes en la Comunidad Latina- (Todas las edades/ Familia. 3 minutos) Únase a Karla Cantarero, una pasante de salud pública de Luminus Network for New Americans en el condado de Howard, mientras habla sobre la prediabetes y las formas en que puede controlar la enfermedad con cambios saludables en el estilo de vida. En alianza con the Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition, the Howard County Health Department, and the Howard County Library System, y Luminus Network for New Americans. 
  • Type 2 Diabetes in the Black Community- (All Ages/ Family, 2min) Join Dr. Dimitri Coupet, a board-certified family medicine physician in Howard County, as he raises awareness about Type 2 diabetes in the Black community and discuss how early detection and treatment can reduce the risk of developing complications from diabetes. Partnered with the Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition, the Howard County Health Department, and Onyx Medical Society. 
  • Diabetes Tipo 2 en la Comunidad Latina- (Todas las edades/ Familia. 3 minutos) Únase a Karla Cantarero, una pasante de salud pública de Luminus Network for New Americans en el condado de Howard, mientras habla sobre la diabetes tipo 2 y cómo la detección y el tratamiento tempranos pueden reducir el riesgo de desarrollar complicaciones a causa de la enfermedad.

Maryland Department of Health Diabetes Communication Campaign

The Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition (HCLHIC) is excited to share materials developed through the MDH Diabetes Communication Campaign Grant, a local public health initiative aimed at raising awareness about prediabetes, diabetes, and access to SNAP benefits.

This campaign focuses on promoting healthy lifestyle tips, using SNAP benefits, and helping residents learn more about prediabetes and diabetes prevention.

We are distributing culturally and linguistically appropriate materials to support outreach across Howard County. Posters and postcards are available in EnglishSpanishChinese and Korean.
